FDLP in a Digital Era
The Federal Depository Library Program has shifted to a digital FDLP. Ashley Dahlen, GPO Outreach Librarian will present a two-part webinar providing guidance and training for law librarians dealing with the transition. Many libraries are reevaluating their existing collections and formats, and are strategizing for the future. The discoverability of FDLP resources in library catalogs and web pages are being critically evaluated. Many are working on how to update from the single-record approach to the separate-record approach. Digital content may not be reflected at all, or is not reflected well. Various methods of downloading free GPO catalog records are available, opening up opportunities to work with catalog record metadata for various projects. All these issues and more will be addressed.
Part One - An overview of GPO catalog records and how libraries work with them:
In this session we will cover what GPO has cataloged, which records GPO has updated over time, where records are available, and what your cataloging workflows might look like in the future. With Ashley Dahlen, GPO Outreach Librarian, and Oksana Osbourne, Metadata Integrity Librarian
Part Two - Using catalog record metadata for collection projects:
In this session we will dive into how FDLP Data Manager (FDM) may be used to work with catalog record metadata outside of a catalog for various projects, such as weeding, inventories, call number conversion, and more. Using FDM metadata with MarcEdit will also be discussed.
