Preservation of Legal Information: Critical Analysis and Collaborative Tools: Recording, Slides, Resources

Descriptions of the Keepers Registry, Palmprint, PAPR, and A Critical Analysis of the Future Progression of the Useful Arts and Sciences Through Libraries and Copyright.

Law libraries may routinely weed collections, but the growing trust in online content over the last decade has increased the prevalence of weeding physical materials. The recent ABA standard that libraries are no longer required to have a core physical collection justifies an acceleration. Libraries began as citadels of information where preservation was the norm, but new trends of large-scale weeding threaten the preservation of legal  information. This presentation looks at problems emerging with the loss of physical materials and the privatization of information. We review tools to help librarians manage collections while considering preservation, and examine the emerging problems with copyright law, interlibrary loan, the scholarly record, and the rule of law.
